India’s batting coach Sitanshu backs Gambhir
Online Staff/GUWAHATI, Nov 20: India’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak backed Gautam Gambhir after the Kolkata Test defeat, saying the team and support staff share responsibility. “South Africa played better cricket; the pitch alone wasn’t to blame,” he said.
Kotak provided an update on captain Shubman Gill, recovering from a neck spasm: “He is improving, but a final decision on his availability will be taken Friday after medical assessment.” He declined to confirm a No. 4 replacement if Gill is unavailable.
The second Test begins at ACA Stadium, Guwahati, on November 22 at 9:00 AM. Kotak said the Barsapara pitch should have better bounce than Kolkata, and the early start won’t be an issue.
South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada remains doubtful after a rib injury, with a final call expected on the eve of the match.
