CM inaugurates Cricket Stadium at Umrangso

Online Staff/GUWAHATI, Dec 5: Assam took a significant step in its sporting infrastructure today with the inauguration of the ACA Cricket Stadium and the Sengya Tularam Pavilion in Umrangso on Friday. Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated both the facilities in presence of DHAC CEM Debolal Gorlosa; Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Nandita Gorlosa; BCCI Secretary and ICC Board Director Devajit Saikia; KAAC CEM Tuliram Ronghang; ACA President Taranga Gogoi; and ACA Secretary Sanatan Das among others formally inaugurated the Stadium and Pavilion.
The project was launched in 2021 and has been described as a major addition to the Assam Cricket Association’s efforts to expand the game across all regions of the state. Set against a striking natural landscape, the venue has been developed as a destination cricket ground with an emphasis on both performance and aesthetics.
The facility covers 30 bighas and includes five centre wickets, five practice pitches, eight residential staff quarters, a modern pavilion with accommodation for 32 players and an earthen gallery that can seat about 15,000 spectators.
After unveiling the stadium and the pavilion, the chief minister congratulated the Assam Cricket Association and called it a good day for Umrangso. He said some leading names of Indian cricket would be invited to play at the venue soon.
Devajit Saikia thanked the chief minister for his support in making the project a reality and acknowledged the assistance from Debolal Gorlosa. He said the ground’s setting reminded him of venues in England or Scotland.
ACA president Taranga Gogoi said the stadium would be among the most beautiful in the country. He expressed hope that a first class match would be hosted there in the coming days.
