No shortcut to sporting success: Amlan
Online Staff / GUWAHATI, June 23: Ace Indian sprinter Amlan Borgohain is gearing up for a strong showing at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the Asian Games in Japan. In a recent interaction with the media, he shared his thoughts and training plans for these upcoming international events. His views are presented below in a Q&A format.
Q: What are your primary goals leading up to the 2026 Commonwealth Games and Asian Games?
Amlan: My main goal is to step up preparations and secure podium finishes in both the Commonwealth and Asian Games. I aim to train with top international sprinters, which will help sharpen my competitive edge. I also plan to focus on multiple events to increase my medal prospects.
Q: So, do you think a long-term plan is necessary to achieve this goal?
Amlan: Absolutely. Sports isn’t like academics, where you can prepare intensively for a couple of months and still pass. In sports, success demands a long-term plan. I believe I have around a year in hand, and if I use this time wisely, I’m confident I can perform well in both events.
Q: Why do you believe training abroad is essential for your success?
Amlan: Exposure to international training standards and competitive environments will help fine-tune my skills. Training alongside elite sprinters abroad will give me the edge I need to compete at the highest level.
Q: Which country do you prefer for your high-performance training?
Amlan: The USA is my first choice. I plan to go there to train with some of the world’s best athletes. This experience will certainly elevate my performance. I’ve already discussed my plans with Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, and he has assured me of full support.
Q: Which events are you planning to focus on in the coming days?
Amlan: I’m capable of competing in multiple disciplines—100m, 200m, and relay events. So, my focus will be on all these categories, both at national and international levels.
