Nowgong Sports Association

Although 1967 is marked as the establishment year of Nowgong Sports Association, the sports body has a long history. It was 1940 when an unruly incident during a soccer match upset sports organizers of the city and they called a meeting to discuss the matter, which gave birth to a new organization — Nowgong Football Association on June 11, 1941. With the flow of time, sports activities in the city began to increase and on May 10, 1951 the association's name was rechristened to Nowgong Sports Club to facilitate activities in other disciplines. The very next year — 1952 — the association received Rs 21,000 from then Minister Motiram Bora for the construction of a pavilion. The name was again rechristened as Nowgong District Sports Association in 1967 and Ramakanta Sarma along with Nurul Amin became the founder president and secretary respectively. At present, the office of the association is situated at the Nurul Amin Sports Complex and it has all modern facilities including gallery, indoor stadium, flood lights and players pavilion.
